The case for e-Court PeaceKeeper COUNSELLING has never been "stronger The ongoing revolution in communications technology and artificial intelligence systems allow us to dispose most of our problems with a click of a mouse button. Hence, the increasing digitisation of society presents an immense opportunity to provide justice to the masses. e-Court is a natural extension of this digital revolution.

As more of our lives are led online, people increasingly expect that more of what they do in the physical world should be available online as well, including online reconstructive procedures. Even though many people's a first connotation of an e-Court is a legal gathering it does not necessarily need to be restricted to activities in the legal sense. Also one should include those courts ( or gatherings ) of a therapeutic and non therapeutic nature. e-Court COUNSELLING is both timely, fast, and affordable and with access to expert "vetted" practitioners. We are part of The International Court for Online Conflict Resolution Inc. (ICOCR).

The use of technology in counselling of a (non) therapeutic nature is a rapidly growing field and includes text messaging, email, internet chatting, telephone, virtual reality, and any other form of counseling that uses technology to create a bridge between the counsellor and the client that would otherwise be created in an in person meeting. Technology is not new to counselling. What is new is the increasing number of tools available to therapists and their clients. Technological applications have proven particularly useful in situations where a client is geographically or emotionally unable to arrange a face-to-face meeting, and have for a long time been used in emergency situations where rapid communication and response is of the essence. Their use is not however limited to those situations. For many clients or in certain situations, technology can aid interactions or allow interaction to occur in a more balanced way, for example, an online discussion forum can help to minimize perceived or real power imbalances among family or work groups that would be very apparent in an in-person session. Clients in general may feel free to say things in text that they would not otherwise say, or say as immediately. Virtual environments allow clients to explore, or to work with managing situations that would be more difficult or painful to recreate in real life. Some technologies, such as social networking sites, can create confusion as to the boundaries between ones professional and personal lives, where the previously learned cues are not present.

Technology, therefore, creates opportunities and also has its own particular challenges with respect to boundaries, safety of communication, and client/therapist relationship. The use of these technologies requires consideration and judgment. e-Court recognizes the potential of technology as a useful tool for therapists in assisting their clients, but also addresses the special issues of safety and confidentiality raised by the use of technology. The laws around the location of electronic or telephone counselling have not yet solidified in many areas of the world. However e-Court ensures and abides by the requirements ( including licencing requirements ) set by the particular jurisdiction to legally provide (health) services to a client.

traditional person-to-person meetings ?

So, what are the e-Court advantages ? These vary from problem to problem, but essentially the advantages over traditional person-to-person meetings can be summarised as follows : confidentiality, lower costs, convenient, therapeutic intimacy, flexibility and the parties are in control.

All matters discussed at an e-Court counselling are entirely confidential. The parties, including the counsellor, will sign a counsellor agreement that binds all of them to this concept of confidentiality. Nothing that has been discussed by anyone can be repeated without the express consent of all involved.

1. Video conferences are convenient. Video conferencing allows the member client to fit in time to work on their problems without having to leave their home. Sometimes motivation is difficult and having fewer barriers to treatment is helpful especially when the member client is feeling ambivalent about change. Also, adding something else into one's schedule can feel overwhelming. Video conferencing affords the member client the opportunity to attend therapy without hassle or travel.

2. e-Court counseling and therapy is not threatening. While attending therapy may be intimidating or uncomfortable, being able to do it from home allows the member client to be comfortable and relaxed while showing up for session. The member client is able to stay in his/her own comfort zone while attending therapy. The member client avoids the awkwardness of entering a space designed by someone else in order to share one's most personal issues.

3. Therapeutic intimacy with an e-Court Professional. When working with a professional online through email or text, one loses a lot of intimacy with the therapist. Non-verbal cues are missed completely and one misses out on making a connection with the treatment provider. Now that e-Court has the technology, video conferencing allows member clients the convenience without sacrificing any of the therapeutic connection. .

Being busy and stressed is part of our everyday life. It can be really challenging to decide to change, connect with a e-Court Counsellor, and establish continuity by attending a session at least once a week. This can be even more challenging if you are not sure about change; therefore, the more barriers to getting there the less likely change happens. Parties regularly due to work constraints coupled with ambivalence about change never get to take advantage of traditional face-to-face meetings. Video conferencing on the other hand, the e-Court way gives access to support and treatment from wherever member clients can find an internet connection and some privacy.

Flexible addiction treatment process. Clients who choose e-Court video conferencing find that it allows them to be more flexible in the counselling process. Clients flexibly receive treatment by fitting sessions into their schedule and lifestyle. It also gives clients an opportunity to access a variety of counselling options that may not be available to them otherwise. For example, video conferencing allows you to stay connected to treatment providers in aftercare that may not be local and/or explore different types of treatment that can be alternatives.

Ultimately due to less overhead and increased convenience for e-Court treatment practitioners, video conferencing allows providers to offer treatment at a lower cost to member clients. This therefore reduces another barrier to treatment. In some areas, traditional face-to-face methods may cost upwards of $400 for a single session with a highly skilled and experienced addiction professional. e-Court Video conferencing can cut this cost considerably.
